Only two weeks to go till baby Magnifique makes his appearance!

And I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes out green, since green smoothies have been my bestest friend all through my pregnancy. Why’s that then?

For the fibre! This has been my daily weapon of choice against the dreaded pregnancy constipation. And it truly works.

Smoothies also make a wonderful morning staple during pregnancy. While it can be tricky to face a full-on brekkie, a simple smoothie is easy to slurp down, and you can be sure you’re giving your body everything it needs to get on with the awesome task of creating another human being from scratch.

So, over the past few months, I’ve developed this yummy and creamy pregnancy concoction. It’s my go-to smoothie recipe right now, and I hope you’ll give it a go, and love it as much as I do.

 

Why Does This Smoothie Rock?

This superfood drink provides everything you and baby need – plus it’s super yum!

Iron

The spinach, raspberries and chia seeds provide a great hit of iron. Which may help you come off those yucky iron tablets that contribute to pregnancy constipation.

Vitamin C

The vitamin C in the spinach and raspberries helps to fix iron in the body, whilst giving you an immune-boosting energy hit.

Folate

Spinach provides tons of folate, the natural form of folic acid which is more bio-available than the pills you’ll be prescribed.

Calcium

There’s tons of calcium in the spinach, and also in the chia and almond milk (which is the most nutritionally dense nut milk out there, FYI).

Good Fats

The avocado, chia and flaxseeds provide the body with healthy fats, which will keep you fuller for longer and avoid a blood sugar spike. The seeds will also help sweep out your digestive system.

Know that you don’t need to be preggo to enjoy this delish drink – as Ann so poetically puts it, it’s not gonna knock you up!

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 frozen bananas
  • 2 cups spinach
  • 1 cup raspberries
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 tbsp flaxseed
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tsp moringa powder
Instructions
  1. Place all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth (about 30 seconds)
  2. Pour into a pretty glass and decorate with hemp seeds, cacao nibs, raspberries – whatever looks pretty to you!
