Chloe’s Clean Makeup Favourites

Is it really possible to find makeup that’s totally natural, nourishing for skin, kind to animals & the environment AND effective and long-lasting?

With tons of high quality, natural, organic and FUN makeup brands popping up all over the place, there’s no need to compromise your health and mother nature in the quest for a fresh and pretty makeup look.

All of the makeup I use is 100% nontoxic and natural. This stuff is so pure you could eat it (though I can’t say I’ve ever been that hungry). What’s more, every product is highly effective and long-lasting.

It feels pretty great to say bye bye to the toxic mainstream beauty industry, which, in addition to using cheap marketing tricks like photoshop to get consumers to buy, also uses dangerous chemicals. Willy nilly. On your eyeballs.

Don’t be duped by those tricky-tricksters – start looking at ingredients lists, and demand only the purest products for your lovely face. We’ll do an article on ingredients to avoid soon.

So, What’s in My Makeup Bag Then?

RMS Beauty

RMS beauty has become a staple in my makeup bag. Here’s why:

First of all, the base ingredient for all their products is organic cold pressed coconut oil, which is of course excellent skin food.

Added to the coco power are these 100% natural, raw and hardworking ingredients:

  • Hydrating cocoa butter
  • Protecting shea butter and castor seed oil
  • Anti-oxidant beeswax
  • Anti-aging jojoba oil

In essence, RMS nourishes and protects your skin while embellishing it with gorgeous hues. And the colour is potent – a little goes a long way. I’ve had my pots of RMS for over 6 months and have hardly made a dent in them. So while they don’t come cheap, remember that a pot will easily last a whole year, if not more.

And check out their lovely, dinky packaging! In addition to being very cute and handbag friendly, there’s no plastic here, and the glass pots and aluminium lids are recyclable.

For info, Parisiennes can access this lovely brand at one of the two Oh My Cream concept stores. It’s also available online.

Les Trois Fées

Les Trois Fées is a family-run brand from Toulouse, France. These beauty fairies lovingly create natural and long-lasting mineral makeup that’s free of parabens, PEG and bismuth oxychloride – a first!

The big mineral makeup brands on the market all tout ‘natural and pure’ branding without actually coming up with the goods. Take a look at Bare Minerals’ ingredients lists for instance.

And then there’s the nano-particle thing. Most mineral brands use particles so small that they get into lungs and cause damage to the respiratory system. But – hoorah – Les Trois Fées are in the know about the dangers of nano-particles, so they use a bigger particle size (without compromising on quality and texture).

Also, when you run out of powder, you can simply order a refill pouch from les fées, thus niftily recycling the pot.

Top three reasons to use (nontoxicmineral makeup rather than liquid foundation:

  • Doesn’t block pores – allows skin to breathe
  • Mineral particles deflect UVA and UVB rays – doubles up as sun protection
  • Finish is more natural than liquid foundation and doesn’t collect into fine lines

Dr Hauschka

Dr Hauschka’s mascara is totally safe and paraben free. What’s more it’s long-lasting, and does what it says on the…tube.

I also love Dr Hauschka’s Rose Day Cream – a cult product, and rightly so.

Couleur Caramel

Couleur Caramel is an organic, natural and cruelty free brand from France with a huge range of products, now available in the US, UK, and elsewhere in Europe. They are gaining success as more and more women are abandoning toxic brands and turning to high quality, safe and natural beauty solutions. I use their powder brow trio which is ace.

So there you have it. Simple, effective, pure.

I hope this post will encourage you to take a look at your makeup routine and weed out the nasties that aren’t supporting your health and wellbeing and that of the planet. And don’t forget to share your favourite nontoxic brands with us in the comments below!
