I originally heard about them in a video on non-toxic beauty products by the lovely Sarah Nagel of Holistic Habits, and I haven’t looked back since. Living Libations is not just a beauty brand, it’s a promise of poetic frolics with the bounty of mother nature in every gorgeous drop.
Living Libations excel at what they call ‘renegade beauty’: a regimen of beauty and hygiene products that are 100% natural and extremely potent. There are no fillers here, no odd-sounding ingredients, no harsh soaps that strip the skin and hair of their natural oils – just gorgeous, pure and potent concoctions extracted from the most powerful plants on the planet.
Of course, the best beauty products are the ones you eat, as no beauty cream can replace good nutrition, and Nadine Artemis, the flowerfairy-esque creator behind Living Libations totally adheres to this. Her first tip for natural beauty is to start by cutting out all processed food, animal products, gluten and refined sugar. But through her work she also underlines that the toxins in the toiletries we use every day cause major tissue damage and accelerated aging – both of which are totally avoidable if we first do a bathroom cull and then replace everything from makeup to dental care to deodorant with only the most unadulterated organic beauty products, straight from mother nature.
As Nadine says, the bad news is that your skin absorbs everything, but also the really really good news is that…your skin absorbs everything! So why not feed it with a glorious botanical banquet every day? 🙂
Here’s a rundown of my favourite Living Libations products:
This is Living Libations’ star product, the one that everybody wants to get their hands on. It’s an oil, which is used both as a cleanser and moisturiser. I know it may sound odd to use oil on your face, especially if you have oily or combination skin, but I’ve had great results with it and it looks as if the other 300-odd people who have left rave reviews on the Living Libations site feel the same way! Washing the face with oil is powerful because it leaves the natural oils of the skin alone, thus preserving the essential barrier that skin needs in order to maintain its elasticity and glow. The magic touch here is the rare seabuckthorn berry oil, which is a powerful lipid-balancer and anti-oxidant that protects, balances, and nourishes the skin.
Here’s the lovely Nadine with a few tips on how to use this bestselling oil:
This balm can be used both as a blusher and a lip stain. Nadine calls it ‘the blush that blushes you’, because it contains cinnamon and Cayenne essential oils which stimulate circulation, so it brings a natural flush to cheeks and lips, in addition to the pigments. And like all of their products, it smells absolutely divine – rose, cinnamon and neroli. Mmm. It also contains jojoba oil and beeswax for softening and protecting skin. Makeup that doubles as a skin treatment? Yes please!
I use a drop of this ‘face food’ in the morning and at night under my face cream. It’s steeped with powerful anti-oxidants which protect the skin from outside irritants, and provides a protective barrier, thus preventing signs of ageing. It’s also incredibly nourishing for skin, because of the potent cocktail of essential oils and extracts. Also, the cinnamon and turmeric oils contained in this serum give your skin a great circulation boost – it’s brill to use in the morning to wake up your skin and senses.
The Yogi Tooth Serum, combined with Dr Tung’s Smart Floss, is my foolproof dynamic duo for healthy teeth and gums. The expanding floss is majorly effective for removing plaque and any other gumminess between teeth, and the blend of essential oils in the serum is super potent. You just run a drop of the serum along your floss and get flossing while enjoying the rich plant-y aromas that make your mouth go ‘ahhh’! The neem, cinnamon, cardamom, clove, mastic and Cayenne oils in this blend have antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties, so look forward to having to go to the dentist less when you use this product daily! It also helps with receding gums, when massaged directly onto gums, and can even reverse cavities. I have been using the tooth serum as a flossing serum until now, but since watching Nadine’s tutorial below, I’ll also be using it as a replacement toothpaste.
For info, Living Libations deliver all across Canada and the US, and also ship internationally.
And here are a couple of European sites that sell LL products:
