What I Eat in a Day | Sunday Brunch at Cloud Cakes

My hope with today's "What I Eat in a Day" video is that you'll a) see how simple it is to eat vegan (even in Paris,) and b) reassure you that bloggers don't eat instagram-worthy food every day.

What I Eat in a Day | Sunday Brunch at Cloud Cakes

I don’t know about you, but most “What I Eat in a Day” videos make me feel like I’m failing at life.

The little hand towel they place next to the dish, the perfect garnishes and the kiwi cutouts… the fabulous, open and bright kitchens they all seem to have… *exasperated sigh*

My home cooking ain’t all pretty and perfect. It’s nutritious, and certainly delicious to my partner and me… but 95% of the time, it’s not worthy of a photograph. And my kitchen? It’s dark and barely fits one person.

#RealLife, folks.

My hope with today’s “What I Eat in a Day” video is that you’ll a) see how simple it is to eat vegan (even in Paris,) and b) reassure you that bloggers don’t eat instagram-worthy food every day. Heck, Chloe and I rarely do. Which may explain why we have fewer followers on social media than many vegan bloggers… *scratches head*

But the cold hard truth is we aren’t food stylists! We aren’t even chefs. We are two women on a quest for health, happiness, and freedom, and unless we pay someone to make everything look nice – which we do on occasion – it usually just looks… normal.

And maybe that’s a good thing. Because maybe you, too, look at YouTubers and bloggers and think you’re failing at life. And you’re not. We’re not. We’re not failing at life because our food doesn’t look perfect, we fail at life when we let comparicitis get to us.

So, now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to it, friends.

What I Eat in a Day | Vegan Brunch @ Cloud Cakes

Today’s video is half food prepared by me, half prepared by those geniuses as Cloud Cakes. 🙂 Join my dear friend, Marie and me, as we galavant around Paris, eating, walking, and tea-tasting. Ahhh, the joys of a sunny Sunday!

Mentioned in the video:

So, please don’t hate me because my food is “ugly.” Yours might be, too, and to this I say, “high five!”

And, look, if your food is beautiful and worthy of Pinterest, you also deserve a “high five” and “how do you do it?” and “please be our intern.” 😉

Happy weekend, friends. Maybe it be filled with blue skies, pancakes, and several cups of tea.

You and Marie are stars! And so is the food. And you obviously have a great photographer!

  2. Amanda C. says:

“Try not to over-steam the broccoli, like Ann did…” ?? Ad hoc meals are the best! And I thought it was colorful and pretty. I’d totally make it! Great vid, as always ??

    • Ann says:

Aw, thanks, Amanda! 🙂 Most of my cooking is ad hoc if I’m being honest, so I’m so glad that you appreciate it! (And, I am crazy about lentil pasta at the moment. It’s so yummy, and yet also nutritious!) Thanks for your support, as always. <3

Why Motherhood Burnout Has Nothing to Do With Strength (And the Defaults That Actually Help)

Arnold treated our family kayak trip like interval training. Edgar bragged about it all day. Ernest tried to capsize us. And somehow, that afternoon, I felt completely calm. Here's why.

I carried an owl vase across an ocean. It never held a single flower. This week's video is about what actually earns its place — across three boys, four years, and one very ruthless edit.

There's a library book that lived behind my shoe dresser for a year. It's the perfect metaphor for what happens in your fridge every week. Here's the system that finally fixed it.
