I carried an owl vase across an ocean. It never held a single flower. This week's video is about what actually earns its place — across three boys, four years, and one very ruthless edit.

For several years, I owned an owl vase.
I bought it in Los Angeles — large, ceramic, deeply self-assured — and when I picked up and moved to Paris, it came along, too. Across an ocean. In luggage that had weight limits. That owl made the cut.
It was, I will admit, a magnificent object. Regal, even. It sat on the shelf and looked exactly like something a person with taste would own. The problem was that it was too tall to actually hold flowers, which meant it was not, technically, a vase. It was a tchotchke with a superiority complex. And every week, without fail, it needed to be dusted — including the inside, because it was hollow and apparently committed to collecting evidence of my domestic shortcomings.
I cleaned that owl for years. I moved it from shelf to shelf across two countries. I worked around it. I thought about it. I managed it.
And then, when we moved to New Hampshire, I finally let it fly away. It was bittersweet, as these things are.
What I’ve learned since, and what I now think about constantly as a mom of three boys who is deeply allergic to clutter, is that the owl was never really mine. I was his.
Every object you own is asking something of you. And the ones that give nothing back will quietly drain you… one dusting at a time. That reframe is the entire lens of this week’s video.
With my first baby, the cultural messaging was deafening and entirely unanimous: the more prepared you are, the more you have. Every checklist, every YouTube haul, every aunt with strong opinions and a Prime membership was pointing in the same direction — more.
By Oscar — my third, now ten months old, currently conducting independent research into everything within arm’s reach — I think about it completely differently. The question I ask before buying anything now isn’t “do I need this?” It’s: Will this still earn its place by baby three? Does it solve one problem or three?
Or… does it just take up space in my tiny home and in my head?
That question has quietly revolutionized what we own. And in this week’s video, I walk through everything that survived that filter — across three boys, four years, and a genuinely ruthless editing process. This is not a typical baby products roundup, eh? No products I used twice and photographed beautifully. Everything in this video is something I reach for every. single. day.
That’s all from me this week, friends.
If you watch the video and one product makes you go “okay, that one” — come back and tell me which it was. I read every comment and every reply, and some of my best discoveries have come straight from you.
Wishing you a week of objects that earn their place, shelves that breathe, and at least one thing you own that gives more than it takes. 🌿
With so much love,
Ann
P.S. The owl is gone. The Calm Meal Formula is here. And free. Priorities, as they say, have been recalibrated. Grab it.
