What I Eat in a Day | Breastfeeding Vegan Mom

One upside of this whole nursing adventure – besides beautifully nourishing my precious little pumpkin – is that I get to eat all day as much as I jolly-well-please.

In a way, I envy the earthy mamas oozing estrogen and celestial goddess mermaid vibes who nurse their babes with ease and aplomb, reluctant to ever wean.

On the other hand, that’s not really me.

Since I’m not the braless flowery feminine type, breastfeeding hasn’t been all rainbows and rosebuds. Things are much better now, thank God, but it took some time. (And certainly I have some ideas of how I’ll do things differently the next time around!)

Anyway, one upside of this whole nursing adventure – besides beautifully nourishing my precious little pumpkin – is that I get to eat all day as much as I jolly-well-please.

Cookies? I’ll take four please.

Two breakfasts? Every day.

So in that regard, I’m living my best life. *Grins and peace signs with both hands* Because your girl loves food.

What are Galactagogues?

Intergalactic galactagogues are the key to the milky way, apparently!

Galactagogue: Also known as a lactation inducer or milk booster, is a substance that promotes lactation in humans and other animals.

Foods that are considered to be galactagogues:

  • Oatmeal and whole grains
  • Dark, leafy greens
  • Fennel
  • Garlic
  • Chickpeas
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Ginger
  • Papaya
  • Spices
  • Brewer’s Yeast

Many of these foods are some of my all-time-go-to-faves anyway, (except the brewer’s yeast, obvs,) so eating a lactation-boosting diet as a mainly whole foods plant-based vegan has been a breeze!

But more on that in the video. 🙂

I was the one who did in our Zojirushi. Arnold tried to save it. For months it wheezed along like a janky old clanker... This is a story about rice, batch cooking, and feeding a family of five without spending a fortune.

I made Arnold quinoa sushi in the Jardin du Luxembourg to win his heart. Years later he sat me down at a kitchen table and fixed dinner forever. Both worked.
