One of the most humbling parts of parenting toddlers is how quickly the winds change. One day your three-year-old is gleefully gobbling up mangos like it’s his full-time job, and the next day? He’s spitting them out like you’ve offered him something vile. Or perhaps your little one will only eat blueberries if they’re frozen — but fresh ones? Quelle horreur.
Parenting toddlers means constantly pivoting. What worked yesterday may be met with utter disdain today. And when it comes to vegetables? Well, that’s a whole dance in itself.
I’ve got two of these little food critics at home – ages 3 and 1 – and trust me when I say: I get it. You lovingly prepare a wholesome meal, dreaming of sweet potato success, only to be met with scrunched noses and suspicious side-eyes. (Or, like, it gets thrown on the wall…)
It’s frustrating. Especially when you’re trying your best to raise healthy eaters. And even more especially when you and your husband studied holistic nutrition and know that real, colorful, fiber-rich food fuels growing bodies and brains.
But here’s the kicker: knowing it’s good for them doesn’t make them eat it.
Dang it.
Over the years (and many broccoli stand-offs), I’ve learned that the secret isn’t pressure — it’s persistence. I sneak veggies in, sure. But I also keep offering them openly, without drama. That’s the combo that works for us: playful exposure + stealthy nourishment. 🙂
Whether it’s green smoothies disguised as monster juice or muffins with hidden carrots, I’ve learned to embrace a little creativity. And that’s what today’s video is all about.
If you’re looking for ways to get more veggies into those little bellies without daily battles, I’ve got you. These are real-life tips I use with my own kids — quick, do-able, and yes, a little bit sneaky (in the most loving way).
And remember… this isn’t about perfection.
It’s about doing your best with what you’ve got. Some days, they’ll devour veggie-packed muffins. Other days, they’ll eat toast and air. It happens.
But little by little, it adds up. The exposure. The modeling. The quiet wins. And the more we make veggies normal and non-negotiable, the more they become part of the family food culture.
So hang in there. Celebrate the small wins. And keep on offering the broccoli (even if it ends up on the floor…. for now).
