How I’m Preparing for a VBAC Home Birth: Natural Birth Tips and Inspiration

I’m in my third trimester, very pregnant, and preparing for a VBAC home birth. Here’s how I’m blending humor, science, and natural birth tips as I get ready to welcome baby any day now.

How I’m Preparing for a VBAC Home Birth: Natural Birth Tips and Inspiration

September may just be sneaking its way into my heart as my favorite season here in New Hampshire. The mornings are crisp, but the days are warm, the leaves are starting to change, and everywhere you turn there’s a whiff of cinnamon. It’s cozy, it’s charming… and it’s also the season where I officially look like I’ve swallowed one of those decorative porch pumpkins whole.

It’s the kind of cozy, hearth-ready season that makes you want to wrap yourself in a blanket and cocoon. Which, as it turns out, is excellent timing… because I’m about to do exactly that with a newborn.

Third Trimester Musings: Waiting for Baby

Yes, friends — I am very pregnant. Any day now, this baby could arrive, and I’m waddling around like a woman who simultaneously wants time to speed up and slow down. I’m trying to savor these last golden days of pregnancy, while also mentally preparing for the marathon of birth that lies ahead.

And this time, it’s not just any birth. This time, it’s a VBAC — a vaginal birth after cesarean — and I’m planning to do it at home. (If you missed that whole story, here’s my c-section video.)

Cue the raised eyebrows.

Is a VBAC at Home Really Safe?

But before you clutch your pearls, hear me out: VBACs are not only possible, they can be downright safer, and… empowering. I’ve done my homework, and at this very moment I’m probably on my yoga mat doing cat-cows… let’s just say I’ve been studying for this test.

In fact, I’ve made a whole video about how I’m preparing for this VBAC home birth — the practical steps, the mindset shifts, the science, the tips. It’s part comedy, part childbirth class, part pep talk for anyone else who’s curious (or skeptical) about whether VBACs at home are safe, sane, and achievable.

So if you want to peek behind the curtain of my natural-leaning preparations and see how tea, mental rehearsal, and a little faith in physiology all come together — pour yourself a mug of something cozy and let’s get into it.

How I’m Preparing for My Home VBAC

So whether you’re a mama-to-be, a VBAC hopeful, or just here for the pumpkin jokes, I hope this reminds you that birth doesn’t have to be clinical or scary. It can be informed, intentional, and even a little bit funny. Stay tuned, because the next chapter of this story is about to get very real…

Wish me luck,

Arnold treated our family kayak trip like interval training. Edgar bragged about it all day. Ernest tried to capsize us. And somehow, that afternoon, I felt completely calm. Here's why.

I carried an owl vase across an ocean. It never held a single flower. This week's video is about what actually earns its place — across three boys, four years, and one very ruthless edit.
