My Birth Story – From Home Birth to C-Section

My Birth Story – From Home Birth to C-Section

Ohhh the lessons we learn when we embark on this journey called parenthood.

I could write a book about all the lessons I’ve already learned, and I’m only two years in.

One major lesson that is ever present – though most especially as I share my birth story – is that things don’t always go as planned… and somehow you have to deal.

Before having children you have so much more control over certain aspects of your life, but start adding other humans into the mix, and suddenly control goes out the window, and the art of surrender becomes vital to your survival.

I’ve never excelled at surrender.

So much so that the Universe was like, “Dude, this girl needs another exercise in surrender. Let’s give her an emergency C-section situation.”

Now is this how the Universe rolls? I don’t know.

Does the Universe say things like, “Dude”? Again, who can be sure.

All I know is that after this whole “home birth to C-section” kerfuffle, I’m a different person.

(Thanks, Universe. I owe ya one.)

Plan A: The Home Birth

Many of you know that I had a home birth with my first son, and that I had planned to do another one with baby number two. I’m a natural kinda girl and I think that birth is usually a natural process, unless… there’s a problem.

But before I get ahead of myself, I tell you everything (even stuff you may not want to know,) in the video.

How I Went From Home Birth to Emergency C-Section

So now you know everything.

Thank you for being here, reader, and for your continued support.

So good that you had family support during your medical emergency, and that the angels were watching over you. You and your son are both healthy and happily bonded.

Fascinating to hear of your birth story. I’m so glad it all worked out! It sounds like you did what you needed to do even though it was not at all what you wanted. I also had an unplanned caesarean because Zak was head down but in the posterior position and he weighed 9 lb 4oz. After more than 36 hours of labor, he went into fetal distress and they said they had to do a c-section with a general anesthetic instead of the natural birth we had planned for. After all that pain, I welcomed being knocked out. Zak was fine and I was fine except for the abdominal pain.
Kudos to you for coming out on the other side being grateful. I’m so grateful you are both healthy. Kudos to Arnold for being there for you and baby Ernest.
    Live to you all! ❤️

I carried an owl vase across an ocean. It never held a single flower. This week's video is about what actually earns its place — across three boys, four years, and one very ruthless edit.
