Becoming a mother further crystalizes just how profoundly precious each person is. Your reverence for life expands. Your capacity to care expands. It's full on.

If you’re here reading this, then chances are, you’re on board with the whole “sanctity of life” concept, i.e. life is sacred.
And though this is certainly a concept we can all get behind (especially vegans), I don’t think I truly understood this until becoming a mother. That is, at least in my experience, becoming a mother completely crystalizes just how profoundly precious each. person. is.
What I’m trying to say, and what I forgot to mention in the video below, is this:
You realize so deeply that each human roaming this planet is the son or daughter of someone, and started out cooing and waving and giggling, just like your child.
Your reverence for life expands. Your capacity to care expands. Your emotional incontinence when your child is ill or hurt or sad is just… full on.
For example, my son currently has a cold, so last night we had to use the NoseFrida to relieve him of his congestion. He looooathes NoseFrida, and as he screamed, I sobbed. Just sobbed. I absolutely cannot STAND for him to be so upset.
I’ve never experienced compassion and care and emotion this acute before.
(So… add this to my list of “Things I Wish I Knew Before Having a Baby,” please. Thanks.)
So in addition to this wild ride on the empathy rollercoaster, there are some other delights that I experienced postpartum that I wasn’t expecting – from being a smelly-smeller to sudden uterine contractions to some conversations that I’d wished I’d had.
But it’s all in the video, of course! Here’s hoping that these tips help you be less blindsided than I was when your baby comes Earthside.
Mentioned in the video:
There you have it… all the things I wished I knew. Of course, if you haven’t already, make sure to check out my post on my top postpartum tips for new moms, which goes hand-in-hand with this one!
Wishing you all a delightful weekend. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas ’round here. 🙂
