Mom Hacks from a Mama of Three: Simple Systems That Make Life Easier

Life with three kids isn’t about having it all figured out. It’s about small systems, gentle routines, and hacks that make everyday mom life feel calmer, lighter, and more doable.

Mom Hacks from a Mama of Three: Simple Systems That Make Life Easier

Recently it occurred to me that things feel… lighter than they used to.

Not perfect. Not effortless. Just more manageable.

Which is honestly surprising, because I now have three children, homeschool, run a business, cook most meals at home… and still regularly forget where I put my phone.

What I realized is this: I don’t have it all figured out. I’m not doing everything “right.” Things are simply better than they were before.

And that matters, because there was a time – with fewer kids, actually – when everything felt harder. I was constantly reacting instead of living my days. Behind on everything. Frazzled. Exhausted. I was doing less on paper than I am now, and yet somehow drowning.

As kid number three loomed, it became very clear: I needed to get a handle on things, or this whole operation was going to sink.

What changed wasn’t my workload. It was how much unnecessary friction we removed from our lives.

By the time you’re a mom of three, the fantasy of “having it all together” quietly dies. What replaces it isn’t perfection, it’s discernment. You start noticing what actually matters in your family, what truly helps, and what can be let go without guilt.

Mom Hacks vs. Systems: How I Stay Sane as a Mama of Three

Somewhere between the second and third child, something really did shift for me.

I realized something had to change. Not my children. Not my goals. Not my standards. (I deeply loathe when people tell mothers to “just lower your standards.” No. Your standards create your life. If anyone tells you this, run the other way. Except maybe during postpartum. All bets are off during postpartum.)

What did have to go was perfection. And appearances. And the idea that I could brute-force my way through motherhood on good intentions alone.

What replaced them were systems.

Enter Arnold — my systems-minded, INTJ husband — who generally lets me handle the day-to-day home management, but steps in when things are clearly on fire. When I was at my breaking point, he sat down with me and helped me build better systems. Not rigid schedules, but rhythms that could actually hold us.

Through teamwork, trial and error, and — yes — adding another child into the mix, I learned this:

Calm doesn’t come from having fewer responsibilities.
It comes from having better systems.

Systems that reduce friction.
Systems that make everyday life feel lighter.
Systems that support real life with three very real children, four and under.

And just to be clear — this doesn’t mean every day is a breeze. I still have hard days. Loud days. Days where nothing goes according to plan. That’s parenting, and, like, life.

But these systems (or “hacks”) have been genuinely life-changing for my sanity. They’ve taken me from constantly frazzled to far more grounded, happier, and able to show up with patience… even when things are messy.

So with that said, I truly hope the rhythms and decisions I’m sharing here — the ones that keep our home running smoothly and my nervous system regulated — will be helpful for you, too.

I’m a Mom of Three — These Systems Are the Only Reason My Life Works

Mentioned in the video:

If you’re a newer mom reading this and feeling overwhelmed, let me say this gently: you’re not behind – you’re learning how to hold a whole new role.

And if feeding your kids well feels like one more thing you’re supposed to “get right,” I made something specifically to help with that. I am thrilled to announce that I’ve created a 30-minute masterclass called How to Raise Plant-Based Kids (Without Stress or Perfectionism). In it, I walk you through how to simplify plant-based eating for kids without obsessing over nutrients, how to gently and consistently add more vegetables and whole plant foods, and how to navigate the social side of raising plant-based kids – parties, caregivers, school, and beyond. We also talk about modeling healthy habits without food stress or power struggles, plus snack and meal ideas kids actually enjoy, and the mindset shifts that make this lifestyle sustainable long-term.

Anyway, remember, my friend, you don’t need to do more. You don’t need to be perfect…

You just need systems, and support, that work in real life.

Arnold treated our family kayak trip like interval training. Edgar bragged about it all day. Ernest tried to capsize us. And somehow, that afternoon, I felt completely calm. Here's why.
