Top 10 Tips for Decluttering | Matcha + Minimalism

I'm not saying I don't like stuff... I do. I'm especially fond of my white Japanese tea set. I'm saying we have to be intentional about the stuff that surrounds us.

Top 10 Tips for Decluttering | Matcha + Minimalism

Life is messy.

(Example A: The year 2020?)

Changes, fluctuations, ups and downs, good hair days, bad hair days, fat days and fabulous ones… it’s a bit entropic.

As such, anything we can do to ease the entropy, and soften the overwhelm of the unexpected, the more we can ride the waves of life with aplomb, and focus on what really matters. (Hint: Not stuff.)

One way to do this, is decluttering.

The Benefits of Decluttering

The benefits of decluttering, and minimizing in general, are far reaching, and you’ve probably heard them before. Here are a few:

  • Decluttering excess means more space for the essential or the treasured.
  • Decluttering our physical space declutters the mind.
  • Decluttering ups our Feng Shui flow ten fold.
  • It’s easier to clean a decluttered home.
  • We can find things more easily.
  • Etc.

In short, it’s less stressful. And energetically, when there’s less and fewer to attack our senses at every moment, we start to see more of ourselves, more of our real life. (Geek out, grammar snobs, I’m with you.)

The cold hard truth is that you are not your things. You’re not. You’re this amazingly complex spiritual being having this human existence (yep, I’m going there,) and if your identity is tightly woven in the clothes that you wear, the car that you drive, or your collection of mid-century modern furniture – I’m not saying it’s not pretty – you’re bound to feel more frazzle in your day-to-day. Why? Because you’re missing the point. The point of being human. We’re not meant to just be collectors of things, we’re meant to grow, experience, love, and create.

Look, I’m not saying I don’t like stuff… I do. I’m especially fond of my white Japanese tea set. I’m saying we have to be intentional about the stuff that surrounds us so that we don’t suffocate on the excess, the unwanted, and the superfluous. You feel me?

One way to be intentional is to declutter. So let’s get to it.

Today I wanted to share some decluttering tips that I’ve personally found helpful in my own life, in the hopes that they bring you spacial solace, mental clarity, and maybe even a greater sense of self.
