I’m not into deprivation. I’m really not.
Life oughta be lived, enjoyed… delicious.
Here on Veggie Magnifique, we do believe that healthy treats are to be celebrated and relished, but that the bulk of what we’re eating should be whole foods. Because the truth is: adopting a whole foods plant based diet is one of the best things you can do to reduce your risk of developing a chronic disease.
If you’re treating a serious disease with diet, then you do have to be stringent, i.e. no vegan butter, frivolities and whathaveyou. But, it is my opinion as a health coach, that if you’re a healthy person, (i.e. not trying to reverse a serious health concern,) that eating whole foods 80 or 90% of the time, and vegan cheese, veggie dumplings, cake, etc., the other 10 or 20% of the time leads to a life well lived, and a healthy sense of balance. As I said, deprivation is to be avoided, especially if we’re seeking to sustain a healthy lifestyle.
Essentially, whole foods are plants in their original form. So, fruits, veggies, beans, nuts, seeds, that haven’t been processed. So, a mango is a whole food, but vegan mango ice cream is processed… unless of course you make it yourself with some frozen bananas in your blender. Mmm.
Today we’re doing a lil’ fridge tour.
You’ll see that I have lotsa veggies and fruits, of course, but that I also have my fair share of yummy vegan condiments that I add into the mix. Is my fridge the most ideal and perfect beacon of a heavenly plantiful fridge? Probably not.
One day I’d like to make my own hummus every week, and same for vegan cheeses. I’d love to have more time to make Oona’s recipe for vegan butter… instead of buying one in a plastic container at the store, and get on the fermentation band wagon.
We all have our goals.
In the meantime, though, I thought it might be helpful to chat with you a little bit about some products that I love, and some items that I always try to keep on hands (e.g. greens, citrus, etc.) My hope is that this fridge tour will inspire those who find veganizing their diets a bit daunting, and/or to just have a little foodly fun with those who already have the plant-based thing down pat.
So let’s get into the video! (This one’s a long one…. grab a cup of tea, huh?)
Mentioned in the video:
So friends, there you have it… a visit to my imperfect vegan fridge. If you found this post and video helpful, or if you just have some suggestions or ideas for me, please leave them in the comments below. I love to hear from you! Also, if you’re interested in a freezer tour (which I swear will be a shorter video!), please let me know.
Wishing you all a glorious, flower-filled April,

Thanks Ann- that was a fun tour of your fridge. I got lots of information for shopping for a plant based diet. Kimchi is best eaten fresh and is so yummy! Maybe you can use the older Kimchi in a stir fry or soup?
