Can I just tell you something embarrassing?
So I usually allow myself to watch one or two movies on long international flights, the rest of the time I strive to be more productive.
On my recent trip back home to Paris from Seattle I watched Brooklyn, which we can all agree is praiseworthy and poignant, especially for someone who has built a life abroad like me… and now for the embarrassing part, I also watched High Strung.
Look — I love dance, I love music… this one had both.
Is the plot almost the same as Step Up? Absolutely. Is most of the acting bad? Absolutely. Did I thoroughly enjoy it, though? Abso-fricken-lutely. (That infixation was for you, Doug.)
I mean there was hip hop fiddling, gorgeous grand-jeté-ing, romantic intrigue… *sigh* Fantastic. Highly predictable, but fantastic.
See, the rather embarrassing truth is I love cheesy romantic comedies. I do. I think it best to just admit it right now, because sooner or later you’d all find out anyway. (Maybe in another 50 Fun Facts vid? ) Of course, I guess it all evens out because 80% of the time I’m watching documentaries like this one, this one, or this classic…
Documentaries are to greens, as rom-coms are to vegan fudge brownies!?
Enjoy with moderation?
Anyway, the reason I’m talking about this is: jetlag.
Naturally, I’ve been following my usual protocol (here’s all my tips to beat jetlag), but sometimes when you’re completely exhausted from a 10-hour flight, you just need to relax a bit and distract yourself so as not to fall asleep too early. So… I may have watched another romantic comedy or two in my jetlagged stupor.
But that isn’t all I’ve been doing… I’ve also been juicing. Which is really what this post is about. (Unless you want to go on talking about rom-coms? 😀 )
Even if you’re not jetlagged, today’s recipe will make you want to squeal “Skadoosh!” (At least… that’s the effect it has on me.) Packed with beets and ginger, this juice will jump-start your body’s detoxification process, and fill you with more energy than even your 5-year-old niece (whom you tried to keep up with over the summer when visiting your sister.)
*Cerebral data to follow*
Accelerate detox, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-cancerous, increase mental health, boost libido, lower blood pressure, improve stamina, etc.
And in today’s recipe, this super veg is combined with a bodacious side-kick… ginger.
Cleanses your blood, improves digestion, treats nausea, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, boosts your immunity, reduces muscle pain … I could go on and on.
Think about these things as you sip and chew your juice… I swear it makes a difference. Don’t believe me? Ask the dishes! Or… the placebo effect.
So, without further ado…
Here's one of my fave all-time juices, filled with juicy beets. You knew this way coming, right? Have you seen my new top Lettuce Turn Up The Beet? I'm obsessed.

Let’s not over complicate things…
Make sure to experiment with different ratios of carrots v. apples, and also with how much ginger, etc. Make it your own! Make it fantastic for you. The most important thing is just that you get this amazin’ nutrition in your bod.
And with that, I’m going to go drink some more of my ruby tonic,
P.S. Do you have a favorite romantic comedy? Comment below! I may find myself in a jetlagged stupor again sooner than later and would love your suggestions.
