Health Benefits of Exercise – Beyond Weight Loss



Right now I have so little time to spend time doing the things I love.

Working over full time, I barely have time for Veggie Magnifique, or even household chores. Like, when can I clean my house? Fold laundry? Write thank you notes? Let alone relish languid afternoons, long walks, or drawn-out chats with friends.

The one thing, however, that seldom falls to the wayside during this insane season of my life is my morning workout. If I don’t stretch and move, I will break. 

Exercise is a balm for so many ills, and has helped me tremendously get through this period of overwhelm without entirely breaking (yet.) But, exercise is not just my own personal feel good regime, it’s scientifically proven to be one of the most powerful immune and mood boosters, one that often gets overlooked.

So many people have filed exercise under “weight loss” or “toning,” and forgotten about all the other benefits that have nothing to do with how you look. 

The Health Benefits of Exercise are Endless!

Exercise helps to:

  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improve quality of sleep
  • Delay loss of muscle mass
  • Improve balance and coordination
  • Improve flexibility
  • Improve digestion
  • Reduce osteoporosis
  • Reduce joint stress
  • Decrease risk of heart disease
  • Improve health and decrease existing damage
  • Decrease inflammation
  • Improve liver health
  • Improve insulin sensitivity and reduce risk of type 2 diabetes
  • Increase energy and reduce risk of depression, anxiety, and stress
  • Improve cognitive function
  • Etc.

(Yes, that’s me in my past life, when I was knee-high to a grasshopper running around kicking a little round ball. This was when soccer was fun – before things got real, and I found myself playing top level ball, and eventually cursing the whole sport entirely, but I digress…)

Anyway, in today’s vid, I also share some strategies for carving out the time to work out, as well as explaining the ins and outs of “bio-individuality” when it comes to exercise. At the end of week, look back at your notes and do a little check in with yourself. How are you feeling? Have you increased your weekly movement? Be sure to love on yourself for a week well done with a moment of self-care or special time with a loved one!
