How I Cook Without Oil (Even While Pregnant and Craving Everything!)

Listen, I’m not here to demonize oil. But when you’re eating for two, it feels good to fill your plate with actual food — fiber, protein, vitamins — not just empty calories.

How I Cook Without Oil (Even While Pregnant and Craving Everything!)

Confession time: This third pregnancy has me craving… everything. (Yes, I’m pregnant!)

I’m talking thick crunchy bread slathered in tahini, bowls of lentil soup, crunchy black bean tacos, avocado parties… and — on especially ravenous days — possibly all of the above at once.

But here’s the thing… while I’m all about honoring my body’s cravings (especially during pregnancy), I also like to be intentional about where my calories come from. Because, let’s be honest, I’d much rather “spend” my calories on peanut butter and dates than on invisible oil hiding in my sauces and salad dressings.

And that’s why I’ve been enjoying the world of oil-free cooking — not as a restriction, but as a way to cook smarter. To eat more, not less. To still enjoy flavorful, crispy, comforting food… without the unnecessary slick.

Why Bother Cooking Without Oil?

Listen, I’m not here to demonize oil. But when you’re eating for two, it feels good to fill your plate with actual food — fiber, protein, vitamins — not just empty calories.

Plus, skipping the oil has bonus benefits for everyone:

  • Better for heart health

  • Easier on digestion

  • You get to taste the food itself, not just the oil it’s swimming in

And spoiler alert: you don’t need oil to make food delicious. I promise.

What I Do Instead

In my latest video below, I walk you through exactly how I cook without oil — in a way that’s practical, delicious, and totally doable – even for my busy mamas out there.

Here’s a little preview:

  • Sautéing sans oil — I use veggie broth/bouillon to keep things juicy. (These ones are next-level.)
  • Air fryer to the rescue — Perfectly crispy potatoes and cauliflower with zero oil. It’s basically magic.
  • Creamy dressings, no oil required — Think tahini, mustard, balsamic, maple… so good you won’t even miss the oily stuff.
  • Heart-healthy toast — I skip the vegan butter and go for hummus, nut butter, or even jam. (My toddler approves.)

Watch the video to see how I bring it all together — oil-free, mess-free (unless you have two toddlers like I do – messes be ERRRYWHERE), plus I share some pro tips for oil-free success.

Arnold treated our family kayak trip like interval training. Edgar bragged about it all day. Ernest tried to capsize us. And somehow, that afternoon, I felt completely calm. Here's why.
