I have to say… I’m already enjoying this newfound “mama solidarity.” It’s like I’m being initiated into this new club – which, in today’s divisive climate, is a welcomed and heartwarming breath of fresh air.
For example, just last night we were at a restaurant for a friend’s birthday, and upon hearing us talking about my pregnancy and upcoming home birth, the waitress, who apparently had three kids of her own, started giving me the most sincere and heartfelt pep talk.
“You can do it!” she told me fervently, “You have it in you.” (She also helped my husband and me to order the most delicious “off menu” vegan poke bowl, and made sure they used all the veggies in their arsenal. #grateful)
So, though I’ve never been an oozing-feminine-energy-girly-girl, I am digging this womanly mama club.
Today we’re tackling some big topics… namely my decision to give birth at home, and some other uncommon (in modern western culture) choices I’m making for my pregnancy.
It’s truly important to me that my readers and viewers understand that, above all, my intent is to be as honest and transparent as possible. And though my choices might be unusual and seen by some as “alternative,” I’m okay with that. After all, I’d be being inauthentic if I didn’t share my true feelings, findings, and rational… and that would be a disservice to other mamas or prospective mamas out there.
In short, I sincerely hope that even if my ideas and vision and plans for birth differ from your philosophy, we can coexist without judgement. Again, solidarity in our inclusive mama club.
So let’s jump into the Q&A! (So much gratitude to those who submitted questions.)

Dearest Ann,
I completely support your decision to have a home birth because I trust and have confidence in you. Home births have come a long way since Tom was born 47 years ago! Of my 4 childbirths David’s was the one I needed to be in a hospital for. After quite a few hours of labor I was not progressing. An X-ray showed the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck and his left arm. He was delivered by C-section 15 minutes later hale and healthy. I am confident that those who will be attending you will be skilled and experienced. I am so happy that this new chapter of your life is opening up. Sending support, love and prayers for a joyous experience. Love you, Mari
