I haven’t been eating like a saint during my pregnancy…
I’ve had some moments of delecting in vegan cake, cookies, or a few vegan gummies here and there. I’ve had vegan cheese, and pizza, and the occasional ice cream indulgence. But most the the time, I’ve been pretty fastidious.
I chalk this up to healthy habits, above all, but also a keen motivation to feed our baby as well as possible, and feel my best during pregnancy. Now, does food really play a big role in how we feel, as well as affect the fetus?
You better believe it, baby.
But, though I do encourage women to up their games nutritionally when they’re pregnant, nursing, or trying to get pregnant, I’m not here to tell you that you have to 100% perfect all the time. Because #reallife… and because you’re still a human worthy of foodly pleasure… even when you’re pregnant.
I would say that if you’re eating whole plant foods – fruits, veggies, beans, whole grains, seeds, etc. – 90% of the time, what you do the other 10% of the time isn’t a big deal at all.
The key, in my opinion, is to get vigilant about the 90%. Again, this part is no secret… just eat a bunch of whole plant foods.
Voilà, now you know everything. 🙂
That being said… I thought I’d share some health coach tips about a few particular foods that I’ve been including my diet to make sure I’m hitting all my prenatal nutritional targets. Some of these won’t surprise you I’m sure, but perhaps a few of them will. I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel here, I’m just seeking to encourage other soon-to-be-mamas to up their nutritional games, so that they, and their babes, can reap the benefits of a bodaciously beneficial diet.
So let’s dive in…
