Mindfulness might be the biggest buzzword of our time.
Every day we read more and more articles about the benefits of meditation, morning rituals, and how a mindfulness practice can reduce stress and transform our lives. We’ve signed up for Headspace, do our 5-Minute Journal, and we dream of yoga retreats.
Mindfulness is totally on our radar.
And yet… when it comes to something as integral to life as eating, many of us are all over the place. We’re texting while munching, surfing the web while slurping, and sometimes… getting indigestion while we’re at it.
Certainly one aspect of life that needs a generous dousing of mindfulness is: our relationship with food.
So many of us struggle with food. We love it and yet, at the same time, we hate it.
It makes us feel good… it makes us feel fat.
It gives us guilt… it gives us gas.
We crave it… and we curse it.
We can go from starving to stuffed in five minutes flat, and sometimes a gorgeous dinner can turn into a terrible night of tossing and turning.
What is up with this twisted relationship we have with food?!
After studying holistic nutrition, I’ve realized that so much of our experience with food is how we eat, in addition to what. The state that we find ourselves in as we pick up that fork can truly make or break the experience, not to mention have a huge influence on our digestion and nutrient absorption.
So… how do we create an ideal state for eating, hopefully healing our relationships with food along the way?
We practice mindfulness.
So what do you guys think? Do you incorporate some of these practices?
We sure hope you’ve found these ideas helpful, and that you’ll try these tips when you sit down at your next meal. Remember… if you have any questions on this topic, we’re here for you.
Also, if mindfulness is a topic that speaks to you, be sure to let us know in the comments below.
Here’s to happy eating,

Thanks for the vlog! I really like them by the way.
I’m going to try some of your advices. As a general rule I eat healthy most of the time. But I do have weekly cravings, mostly for carbs or sweet, which are very difficult for me to handle.
Hi Liraz! So glad that you like our vids! 🙂 Totally understand the sweet cravings! I find the best way to handle them is to 1) drink water when they strike, and 2) Try to find the healthiest version of what you’re craving, and/or 3) enjoy a sweet treat, but do it mindfully and responsably (so you have, say, one piece of cake instead of 2 or 3.) 🙂 Thanks so much for the comment, and for your support!
